Nyarlathotep Editing!

  • September 1, 2018

Although we had originally hoped and planned to release the epic "Masks of Nyarlathotep" episode this month, we are still working on it and expect it will come out in October instead. It's as big as six regular episodes combined and doing all the editing, sound design, and music is taking some time. We know people are eager to hear it and we're eager to bring it to you. We're also working on finalizing the prototypes for all the Deluxe and Super Deluxe props and packaging so we can calculate final costs. As soon as we have those answers we'll be announcing pre-orders for those versions. We deeply appreciate the patience of those who have already pre-ordered the show!

Final Recording Session

Principal Recording Complete!

  • August 15, 2018

As of this afternoon, principal recording for Dark Adventure Radio Theatre "Masks of Nyarlathotep" is complete! 35 actors played 136 characters in 184 scenes spanning 446 pages! Our own Kevin Stidham was the last actor at the microphone, picking up a scene that somehow fell through the cracks. Last night was the last major recording session, and here are a couple of photos! Above are writer/producer Sean Branney and audio engineer Ellie McNeil at the control board. Below is a view into the recording booth, where actors Kirsten Kollender, Kacey Camp and Hollie Hunt are at the microphones.

Visiting Dignitaries

  • August 12, 2018

We are very happy to welcome visiting dignitaries from Australia at HPLHS Headquarters today: (l. to r.) Mark Morrison, Jackson Heenan and Rachael Welling. Mark is a longtime member of the HPLHS, having been a subscriber to Strange Eons back in the late 1980s. Gamers will know Mark for his many contributions to classic Call of Cthulhu gaming, including most recently the Ennie Award-winning "Reign of Terror" (2018 Gold Medal for Best Supplement). Mark currently runs Campaign Coins, a company that offers highly realistic prop money for a number of game-playing milieux, including Innsmouth Gold.

We are very happy to confirm that the Masks of Nyarlathotep Gamer Prop Set is now shipping! The first copies went into the mail just before we left for Gen Con, and now that we're back we will be stuffing more folders and more boxes every day and shipping all pre-orders as quickly as we possibly can. We are deeply grateful to all those who took the risk of pre-ordering and we are very eager to get your copies to you soon. They are labor-intensive handmade objects, however, so they will take a little bit of time. We are making progress every day. We're happy with how they came out and we think you will be too.

Our Member of the Month for August 2018 is Jack Duddington of Werribee, Australia.

Jack says: "One fateful day when I was a child and avid reader, I was at my local library looking for a new book to read. I couldn't find a single thing I was interested in. After a while of looking, I stumbled across a book called Dagon & Other Macabre Tales by H.P Lovecraft. I grabbed the book and scampered away, looking for a private spot to read. As I sat down, the librarian asked "Do you think you should be reading that?" to which I replied "Probably not" and began reading anyway. That day I learned the horrifying wonders of Lovecraft, and I could not get enough.

So, naturally, here I am today! I run many varied Cthulhu events within my home town, including board game & role-playing evenings. I also run a Live Action Role-playing Cult in a fantasy setting called the 'Children of the Dreamer', as my character High Cardinal Vulpa. Recently, I've tried my hand at writing some weird fiction, and am currently working on a few short stories centered around Australian history and tropes.

My dream is to visit Providence, preferably when NecronomiCon is happening.

All in all, without Lovecraft's amazing fiction, I would not be the person I am today. So to him I simply say, thank you.

It is an honor to have my name placed here with you all, and look forward to meeting some of my fellow Lovecraft fans one day! Cheers HPLHS! Keep sharing Lovecraft with the world!

Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!"

Gen Con 2018

Gen Con!

  • August 6, 2018

The headquarters team is making its way back from our very first trip to Gen Con in Indianapolis. We had a fun time hanging out with the gang from Chaosium, who graciously shared booth space with us so we could release the Masks of Nyarlathotep Gamer Prop Set to the Gen Con crowd. Thanks to HPLHS friend Jen Knighton for taking this picture of Andrew Leman in his Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh robes!

It was great to meet new people, and to say hi to fans and HPLHS members from the midwest, many of whom collected bonus stamps for their membership cards. We were moved by not only the incredible size of the event, but by how very inclusive and enthusiastic and friendly it seemed to be. We look forward to going back when we can.

Our Member of the Month for July 2018 is Alasdair Macleod of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Alasdair says: "I was aware as a young teenager that there was this weird author called Lovecraft who was responsible for the kind of chilling stories like "The Tomb", and saw illustrations suggestive of a kind of shivery ghosty horror, but it wasn’t till I got hold of a paperback copy of At The Mountains of Madness, aged about 17, that I was stunned by the depth of the concepts in his work, and was hooked.

Before long I had read everything he had published, but often go back to enjoy them again. I still don’t think there’s been anything written in this field that’s better the "The Colour out of Space".

I like other sorts of Sci fi and Fantasy, so here’s me in a GOT outfit."

MON recording session

Masks of Nyarlathotep Progress

  • July 11, 2018

We have been working hard to record the new Dark Adventure Radio Theatre episode, "Masks of Nyarlathotep". In addition to some of the DART regulars that fans will recognize from previous episodes, the many international locales of this story have enabled us to work with some great new actors! We'll be recording throughout the month of July.

MON props

Meanwhile, we're also hard at work on the dozens of prop documents that will be part of the experience. Right now we're focusing on the props that are included in the Gamer Prop Set. Above is a view of mockups of just SOME of those props. The real things will be printed on a wider variety of papers in high quality.
